Send a Letter to the Editor
Letters to the Editor or the opinion page is one of the most read sections of the newspaper. Community members comment on the way issues are addressed. Elected officials often review this section and note their constituents' opinions. These letters can have a great impact in creating public discussion on issues.
Here are some guidelines when writing your letter:
- Due to space limitations, not all letters will be published.
- The more letters the newspaper receives on a topic, the more likely they are to run at least one letter.
- When writing your letter, keep it short and focused. Newspapers have strict length limits and edit letters.
- A concise, single-issue letter has a better chance of keeping the reader's interest.
- Open your letter with a strong statement that comments on Affirmative Action
- Close with the thought you'd like readers to remember.
- Get the facts on the initiative to ban affirmative action, here.
- Include your contact information. When printed, the letter will usually only include your name and city.
